Fort St. James RCMP are reporting a break and enter at the National Historic Site in Fort St. James.

On Tuesday, Sept. 14 police were called to the Historic Site and discovered someone had gained access to one of the historic buildings.

Police say a fire extinguisher was discharged in and around the building and damage was done to one of the rabbit hutches on the park grounds.

Four rabbits are now missing, and one was sadly found deceased.

“Evidence found at the scene have provided police with several leads to follow up with but police look to the public for assistance,” said Cpl. James Potyok with the Fort St. James RCMP.

Fort St. James National Historic Site sits on the shores of Stuart Lake and feature’s Canada’s largest collection of wooden buildings restored to the heyday of the fur trade. The site is also home to animals such as chickens, ducks, turkeys, cows, goats and rabbits.
