I am 28 and currently work in retail sales. I also operate a home-based business as an independent market research contractor.

School board meetings overall are conducted well. However, I believe that there must be more discussion about what is going on in our classrooms as well as more support for what our teachers and students are doing that is innovative and creative.

Where the board of education does not do a very good job is in communicating with the public in general.

I am committed to enhancing that communication, with initiatives such as creating a quarterly board newsletter and blog to keep parents up-to-date.

Although School District 57 is committed to addressing greenhouse gas emissions, education funds should not be used to subsidize big polluters' carbon offsets; government must re-think that decision so that education funds are directed to the classrooms where they belong.

The most pressing issue for this district is the joint issue of rural and community schools. More than a dozen schools have been closed in this district and it's crucial that we don't lose any more capacity.

We must work with the provincial and local governments to ensure that our funding remains adequate to not only keep all our schools open, but delivering services needed by all students in the district.
