Just before 5 am this morning 15 firefighters from three halls responded to a fire at a duplex in the 1400 block of McCullagh Avenue.
First crews found smoke and flames at the rear of both dwelling units.
Five occupants from one side and one occupant from the other had made it out of the building safely.
The fire was put out quickly.
The fire had extended into the attic space along the common wall between the two units.
A special nozzle was used to inject water into the attic space while the roof was kept intact to contain the fire and minimize damage from water and firefighting efforts.
The fire was extinguished within about two hours.
Crews are still on scene to continue to eliminate all hot spots.
Investigators are at the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
A damage estimate is not yet available.
