A Prince George RCMP officer is requesting assistance from the public regarding the historic case of a former Duchess Park senior secondary school teacher who has been charged with gross indecency and sexual intercourse with a person under 16 .

Roderick Lyle Sauve, who was 31 years old at the time of the alleged assault of a 13-year-old student, was a teacher and basketball coach at the high school in Prince George.

Anyone who might have been a witness or a possible victim is asked to contact Const. Vincent Reddekopp at the Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300.

The case involving the accused 60-year-old surfaced in October, 2009 when the Prince George RCMP began an investigation after the female victim came forward to report she had been sexually abused by a former teacher during the years from 1981 to 1985 when the student was 13 to 17 years old.

Sauve was arrested in Victoria and will appear in court on August 11.

A story out of Victoria says that after Sauve left Prince George around 1985 he began teaching at Oak Bay High School for the Greater Victoria School District in 1986. According to John Gaiptman, superintendent of the GVSD, Sauve transferred to Lansdowne junior secondary in 1991 and then to Mount Douglas senior secondary school where he was teaching when he was suspended with pay in February, pending the outcome of police investigation.

Sauve holds a valid teaching certificate and has no discipline listed on his record, according to the B.C. College of Teachers.
