A man with a history of convictions for assault is in custody and facing three charges for allegedly breaking a Prince George RCMP officer's hand with a crutch.
Natrone Andrew Prince, 21, has been charged with assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, wounding, maiming, disfiguring or endangering, and willfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer.
He was arrested Wednesday evening when police were called to a break and enter at a 600-block Ahbau Street home.
A witness directed officers to the vicinity of Spruceland Mall where a suspect matching the description was found.
An officer who attempted to make an arrest was hit with a crutch and the suspect fled across Highway 97 on foot.
A short time later, the same officer found the suspect in the bathroom of a restaurant on Central Street near Fifth Avenue.
Another altercation broke out and the officer's hand was broken before the suspect was subdued with the help of additional police.
Natrone has two convictions for assault. In January, he was sentenced to 12 days in jail and one year probation a day after he was arrested.
And in September 2018, he was sentenced to 18 months probation for a December 2017 incident.
Prince remains in custody.
