Highway 16 was reopened to single-lane alternating early Tuesday afternoon following a weather-related five-vehicle crash about 30 kilometres west of the city.

A stretch at Dahl Lake Road, also known as "potato flats," was closed in both directions for a few hours with a detour in place following the chain-reaction collision shortly before 8:30 a.m.

As of early afternoon, it had been reopened to single-lane alternating as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.

It involved three commercial vehicles and two personal vehicles. One person was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Blowing snow had been reported in the area and Cpl. Mike Halskov of BC RCMP traffic service said the lack of serious injures was likely due to slower-speed crashes occurring in white-out conditions.

Meanwhile, a lane closure is in effect on Highway 97 between Pollard Rd and Umiti Pit Rd - 11 to 15 kilometres north of Quesnel due to another vehicle incident.
