Up to five people died when a passenger vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer Thursday morning outside Williams Lake, B.C.
RCMP said they were called around 10 a.m. local time to the crash scene on Highway 97 just outside the small community of McLeese Lake, about 40 kilometres north of Williams Lake deep in the B.C. Interior.
Insp. Warren Brown said the passenger vehicle burst into flames after hitting the truck, killing everyone inside, "as many as five occupants."
"As of (roughly 2:30 p.m. local time) it was still burning," he said.
The driver of the tractor-trailer survived; Brown did not know whether he was injured.
Road conditions at the time were clear and dry with a temperature slightly below zero, he said, "but there may have been patches of black ice."
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
