The United Way’s Canfor Tree of Lights campaign will put $48,890 into the hands of our city’s non-profit agencies to support the good work they do to make our community better.
The big tree atop the Coast Prince George Hotel is now fully lit, although the campaign fell short of its initial goal of collecting $85,000.
However, the deadline has been extended and campaign funds will continue to be collected until Jan. 8.
“We want to acknowledge how giving the people of Prince George are,” said Trista Spencer, executive director of the United Way of Northern BC. “With so much need and so many agencies hoping for assistance at this time, we know that everyone has a difficult choice to make when deciding where to put their charitable contributions.
“It’s also something we know is more of a challenge this year because of having to come out of the pandemic situation and seeing the cost of living jump exponentially. Not only are we seeing that it’s harder to live comfortably but it’s harder for people to give comfortably.”
The United Way of Northern BC office at 1675 15th Ave. will be closed as of Friday and won’t reopen until Jan. 3.
Tree f Lights donations will continue to be accepted through the holiday season at the Coast Prince George Hotel (770 Brunswick St.) or at the United Way office as of Jan. 3. You can also donate online on the Tree of Lights website.
All donations made between today and Jan. 8 will provide entry in a draw for a special “I’m Not Cooking! restaurant gift card package.
Tickets for the Tree of Lights stocking stuffer 50/50 draw are also available online until Jan. 5 for a chance to win the $25,000 grand prize.
