The city's unemployment rate stood at 5.9 per cent in May, according to Statistics Canada labour market survey numbers.
That's down from 6.6 per cent for the same month last year, as the number of people working rose to 47,900 from 46,500, while those seeking work declined to 3,000 from 3,300 year over year. The city's working-age population is also up by 1,000, to 50,800.
In June, the unemployment rate was 6.3 per cent, with 47,500 working and 3,200 seeking work.
The numbers are based on a three-month rolling average and include both part-time and full-time employment.
The unemployment rate for May is accurate to within 0.9 percentage points, 69 per cent of the time.
