UNBC athletics have once again been recognized nationally, this time in women's basketball.

For the first time in program history (as well as UNBC history), the lady Timberwolves sit in the U SPORTS Top 10 Tuesday (Nov. 20), which is the weekly national rankings.

"Being ranked in the top 10 in the country is a big accomplishment for the team, the basketball program, the university and the city of Prince George," fifth-year UNBC guard Abby Gibb tells PrinceGeorgeMatters.

"We’ve worked really hard to get where we are over the past years; however, we have some big games still to come, starting with a challenging opponent this weekend in Fraser Valley. Our goal is to keep playing as a team, focusing on preparing for our next opponent. On a personal note, it’s an honour to be a part of such a hard-working team, with a great coaching staff and lots of support from the university and the fans. I’m proud to be a UNBC Timberwolf," she says.

The women currently sit atop the Canada West standings at 6-0. The team has wins against Mount Royal, Winnipeg and Trinity Western to date this season. Trinity Western is the closest team behind UNBC with a 6-2 record.
