Global TV will be broadcasting live from Prince George next Tuesday.
The team from News Hour, the network's nightly newscast based in Vancouver, will do their show live from UNBC. On the News Hour set will be current affairs host Chris Gailus, sports host Squire Barnes and meteorologist Kristi Gordon.
"The News Hour on the Road tour gives Global BC an opportunity to connect with communities on a grassroots level, and report on the topics and concerns that matter most to them. As we enter into an election period in B.C., the need to tell these stories becomes that much more important," said Kenton Boston, vice-president of B.C. and national news. "The tour also gives viewers an opportunity to meet Chris, Squire and Kristi, and see all the hard work that goes into putting the News Hour cast together each evening."
Also on the week-long tour are Victoria, Nelson, Kelowna and an off-site broadcast in Vancouver.
Boston added that the newscast would be loaded with all the usual events of the day from the world, nation and province but special local topics would also be examined so the broad audience got a personal taste for these communities.
"Chris Gailus will contribute locally-focused stories and interviews highlighting interesting facts and pressing issues of most importance to each community," he said. "Squire Barnes will also focus a special segment on local sports stories, while Legislative bureau chief Keith Baldrey will put together a political look-ahead of each region leading up to the provincial election."
The province will also get to meet a special representative from each town. A contest was held to select a child from each broadcast area. The winner (not yet disclosed) will be alongside Kristi Gordon as a special guest meteorologist.
The public is welcome to attend the broadcast when they go live at the university campus.
