UNBC student earns scholarship

A University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) student has earned a $7,500 award from the Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation (CST).

A University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) student has earned a $7,500 award from the Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation (CST).

Nicole Von Alkier is one of 10 across Canada to receive the scholarship, given annually to students who demonstrate not only academic excellence, but also an active involvement in student organizations, extra-curricular activities, volunteer work and civic engagement.

Now in the Northern Medical Program after completing a degree in biochemistry and molecular biology, Von Alkier's academic and social contributions amounted to a list of 16 items, from participating in the Shinerama campaign to being a nicotine intervention counsellor to involvemtn in a health research initiative in the Spiti Valley, India.

The CST is a non-profit organization specializing in registered education savings plans and has invested more than $1 million into awards for graduate students since they launched them in 1984.
