CUPE members walk a picket line at UNBC in Oct. 2012. The university faculty will be on the picket lines Thursday morning at 8 a.m.

Late Wednesday night UNBC Faculty Association said it would be on the picket lines starting 8 a.m. Thursday morning.

Wage remains the main point of contention.

"The UNBC Administration has publicly acknowledged the broken salary structure at UNBC, but has not yet tabled an acceptable solution. We remain optimistic that an agreement can be reached in the near future," the association said in its release.

The university said in its release that it offered a five-year compensation package that offers increases of 0 per cent the first year, one per cent the second year and 1.5 per cent the final three years. It said the proposal is in line with the provincial government's Economic Stability Mandate.

The university said UNBC will remain open including the library, dining hall and student service offices. The Northern Sport Centre will also stay open.

Transit buses, however, will not cross the picket line so there will be temporary stops along University Way.

The strike will affect all UNBC regional campuses and could include the Wood Innovation and Design Centre in downtown Prince George.

The bargaining teams will meet Thursday.
