The season hangs in the balance for the UNBC women’s basketball team.

In the first game of the best-of-three quarter-finals, the Lady T-Wolves could not keep up with the University of Calgary Dinos’ high-octane offense, losing by a score of 81-58.

This is the 16th win in a row for Calgary, who now lead the series 1-0, putting UNBC in a must-win scenario or their year is over.

Fifth-year Vasiliki Louka recorded her fourth consecutive double-double performance, bucketing a team-high 16 points in the loss with 12 rebounds.

Maria Mongomo followed with 14 points of her own, while Prince George product Madison Landry scored 12.

UNBC also committed 30 turnovers in the contest, much to the team’s dismay.

“We knew they were going to press, but we weren’t helping each other enough,” said Guard Emily Holmes in a news release. “It is one thing to watch it and whole other thing to play against it. We have to learn from it and do a better job.”

Game Two goes for today (Feb. 16) with tip-off at 5 p.m. Pacific time in Calgary.

If UNBC wins, they’ll force a deciding Game Three on Sunday (Feb. 17), which would start at 12 p.m. Pacific.
