The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) has surpassed its $15-million goal for its Northern Leadership Campaign.

The fundraising initiative, which kicked off in 2014, has brought in $21.4 million. The money supports "a number of institutional priorities and projects that will help advance UNBC's stature as one of Canada's best small research-intensive universities," notes a press release.

The school says a total of 3,306 donors contributed to the Northern Leadership Campaign, which has resulted in the creation of 158 student awards.

“We are incredibly grateful and truly honoured by the generosity and outpouring of support shown by our donors, founders, community partners, alumni, faculty and staff," said UNBC president Dr. Daniel Weeks in the release. "Their commitment to UNBC has made a huge impact that will transform lives and communities in the north and around the world for years to come."

The university hosted a donor appreciation event on Oct. 18 to thank community champions and supporters for their generosity.
