UNBC 25th anniversary celebration on Saturday

The Founding and the Future will be the theme when a celebration of the University of Northern British Columbia's 25th anniversary is held this Saturday.

The Founding and the Future will be the theme when a celebration of the University of Northern British Columbia's 25th anniversary is held this Saturday. And in keeping with that theme, UNBC president Daniel Weeks will give a speech that will provide a vision for the school's next 25 years as part of the 90-minute event at the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre, starting at

2:30 p.m. Carver Ron Sebastien will also make an appearance during an interactive presentation about the creation of UNBC's ceremonial chairs and talking stick while 25th anniversary steering committee chair Dr. Tracy Summerville will provide the opening remarks.

And at 4 p.m., a display will be unveiled in the Agora Courtyard showing the names of the 16,000 people who joined the campaign to create the university in the late 1980s. A reception and reunion with a multimedia presentation about UNBC's history will be held at the Agora Dining Hall, starting at 4:45 p.m. Earlier the same day, there will be an installation ceremony in the Rotunda Gallery for a cottonwood canoe built as part of a UNBC course. That event runs from noon to 1:30 p.m.
