It's normal for a number of campaign signs to be destroyed by wind, accidents and vandalism - but city council candidate Harry Ulch was surprised to find one of his signs buried under a five-foot-high heap of dirt.
On Oct. 27 Ulch found one of his poster-size signs on Domano Boulevard was buried by employees of Western Industrial Contractors working for BC Hydro.
"There was one there that belongs to [council candidate Jordan] Gadsby, but they moved it," Ulch said.
"I don't condone them burying any campaign signs, let alone my own. Why bury it?"
Western Industrial Contractors project manager Eric Wilson said workers were installing a B.C. Hydro junction box on the narrow meridian when the sign was accidentally covered.
High winds were whipping up debris and the crew was working in a very confined area, Wilson said.
In addition, a BC Hydro linesman was working above them on the power lines.
The crew was so focused on getting the job done safely that they didn't notice the sign was covered during the process, he said.
"I went over there and saw the yellow sign sticking out. I told my guys from now on to move any signs," Wilson said.
