Health care in the North is taking another step up with life-saving heart equipment being purchased for UHNBC and an internist trained in the needed technology arriving in Prince George soon.

On Wednesday the final stages of a Spirit of the North Healthcare fund-raising campaign was announced to purchase heart diagnostic equipment for UHNBC's intensive care unit called a cardiovascular ultrasound unit.

Dr. Paul Winwood, head of Internal Medicine, said not only is it expected to save emergency heart patients lives, but will relieve many patients from medical trips to Vancouver for diagnosis.
