Paving of the Tyner Boulevard Trail started this week and is set to continue into September.
The city received a $100,000 provincial grant to pave the 2.6 kilometre trail between Ospika Boulevard and UNBC. The total cost of the project is $300,000.
"This trail will help to meet the active transportation needs of commuters to and from the university and Cranbrook Hill area, ensuring they get back and forth from the university in a safe environment," Mayor Dan Rogers said in a written statement. "This initiative supports council priorities of improving health, safety and air quality."
The Tyner Boulevard Trail is part of the 10 kilometre UNBC Connector Trail System which began in 2009. The city received a $444,000 federal grant to support the development of the trail network.
