UPDATE: As of 11:03 a.m., the two schools are no longer locked down after police located a male high school student and determined there was no criminal intent behind his actions.

Two Prince George schools were locked down Monday morning after RCMP got reports of a youth with a firearm in the area.

Police found a pellet gun near Kelly Road Secondary where RCMP were notified of a youth in the wooded area near the school on Handlen Road

Both Kelly Road Secondary and Heather Park Elementary School remain secured as a precaution, police said in a release. The call came in at about 8:20 a.m.

It is never acceptable to bring a weapon of any kind to school or in close proximity to school. Pellet guns and imitation guns are considered and treated as firearms if they appear to be firearms.

Police are reminding the public that pellet guns and imitation guns are treated as firearms if they appear to be firearms, and that they should never be brought within near a school.

Police ask that anyone with information contact the Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300.
