A teenaged girl is back with her family and a person of interest in a sex assault case has met with investigators.
Both of these outcomes followed only a few hours after Prince George RCMP made public appeals about these people.
Samantha Peck, 15, had not been seen by her closest family since Apr. 20 and the police were called out of fears for her safety. Her photo and information were in media circulation Monday, and by Tuesday morning she made contact.
"Samantha is safe and unharmed," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass. "The Prince George RCMP want to thank the members of the public for providing information that greatly assisted in locating Samantha."
At the same time, another photo in the media found its mark. A sexual assault happened on Nov. 22 in the 1600 block of Queensway and investigators came to believe a particular man, seen in a video surveillance video, was possibly a key element of the case (he is not necessarily a suspect). A still-image of the man was released in the media on Monday.
"On the afternoon of [Tuesday], the man in the photo attended the Prince George RCMP detachment and made himself known to investigators," said Douglass.
Douglass said the public, represented by the media, was vital in both these cases coming to such a swift and positive ending.
