Prince George Fire Rescue (PGFR)  have extinguished an afternoon blaze at a residence on Redwood Street.

At about 2 p.m. 15 firefighters from three halls responded to a reported structure fire at 1700-block Redwood Street. Upon arrival they found smoke coming from the basement of the home.

The fire was isolated to the kitchen area of the basement suite, which was quickly extinguished by fire personnel. There was also one person in the suite at the time of the fire but the individual got out safely. Another person was in the upstairs suite as well but also got out unharmed.

PGFR says the home did not have working smoke detectors in both units. The cause of the fire has been deemed accidental and the damage is estimated at $20,000.
