More tragic news from what is one of B.C.'s most concerning outbreaks in a long-term care home.

Northern Health confirms to PrinceGeorgeMatters that two more people have passed away from COVID-19 at Jubliee Lodge in Prince George as a result of the virus.

This raises the death toll to 14 since an outbreak was declared on Dec. 12.

However, there have been no additional cases of COVID-19 found at Jubliee Lodge since it's last update on Jan. 4, meaning there are still 60 infections broken down among 48 residents and 12 staff members.

The deaths were two of the five deaths officially recorded in Northern Health from this past weekend, reported by B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix today (Jan. 11), out of 22 across B.C.

Overall, Northern Health has seen 42 virus-linked deaths in under a year through the pandemic.

The province's grand total has now reached over 1,000 to 1,010 since January 2020.

Northern Health has previously told PrinceGeorgeMatters that Jubliee Lodge has a capacity of 66 patients.

If that is the maximum capacity, this means 21 per cent of its residents have succumbed to COVID-19 in the last month.

The Prince George long-term care home is one of four active outbreaks across the region.

Two COVID-19 outbreaks are in University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC), including the Internal Medicine Unit where one person has died among 21 total infections, broken down to 10 patients and 11 staff members.

The other is in the Rehabilitation Unit where one case has been detected since Jan. 5.

At Coastal GasLink's work accommodation sites in Burns Lake and the Nechako region, there are no active cases among 56 cases discovered to date involving the 7 Mile and Little Rock Lake lodges.

According to Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, Northern Health counted 173 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 since Friday (Jan. 8) for a regional total of 2,560 since March last year.

This includes 16 people in critical care among 44 total hospitalizations and 2,006 recoveries.

The number of active cases remains undetermined, Dr. Henry said, as a technical error is being tended to as well as a system switch.
