The B.C. Ministry of Health reported two more COVID-related deaths in the Northern Health region on Thursday.

A total of eight COVID-related deaths have been reported in northern B.C. this week, increasing the region’s death toll from the pandemic to 265.

The Ministry of Health reported 29 new cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region on Thursday. The number of active cases in the region dropped to 262, down from 276 on Wednesday.

There were 24 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the Northern Health region on Thursday, the B.C. Centre of Disease Control reported. Of those people, nine were listed in intensive care.

Since the start of the pandemic there have been 17,955 cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region, of which 17,413 people have recovered.

A total of 410,156 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the Northern Health region, the B.C. CDC reported.

As of Thursday, 85.9 per cent of eligible British Columbians (aged five and older) have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 82.1 per cent have two doses. In addition, 13 per cent of eligible adults have received a third booster shot.
