A two car crash that sent two drivers to hospital closed Highway 16 for several hours, RCMP said Monday.

RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson said an 18 year old Alberta woman, who was driving an eastbound Ford Taurus, was airlifted from the site of the head-on collision, around 42 kilometres west of Prince George near Isle Pierre Road, at 2:45 p.m. Monday with serious injuries.

A 65 year old Fraser Lake man, driving a westbound Volkswagen Passat, was also sent to Prince George with serious injuries. Both underwent surgery at UHNBC. The cause of the crash was unknown.
