Two fires weeks apart in McCullagh 'pure coincidence': RCMP

The fire at a McCullagh Avenue duplex on Saturday has been deemed a case of arson. However, authorities stressed the crime has nothing to do with a fire three weeks ago inside the same building.

The fire at a McCullagh Avenue duplex on Saturday has been deemed a case of arson.

However, authorities stressed the crime has nothing to do with a fire three weeks ago inside the same building.

"They are unrelated fires," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass.

"The one three weeks ago was ruled not suspicious, and this one is suspicious and its evidence changes nothing about the original information pertaining to the first fire. This is purely

coincidence."

The weekend blaze was started in the basement of 1481 McCullagh, while the one three weeks ago was located in the basement of 1489 McCullagh.

Although they are under the same roof, they have separate addresses and interior structures.

Officials would not disclose details about the physical evidence found at the scene of either fire; however Douglass said accelerant was not used.

He said relatively little damage was done in the latest blaze.

"The fire was quickly

extinguished.

"The fire was set only minutes before emergency crews were called.

"Somebody spotted it and asked somebody else to phone, which was done.

"We are looking now for more witnesses who might have been in that area at the time."

Anyone with information on the fire is asked to call Prince George RCMP at (250)561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-TIPS (8477), online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca, or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES using keyword "pgtips".
