The Prince George Citizen is a finalist in three reporting categories for this year's Ma Murray Awards from the B.C. Yukon Community Newspapers Association.
Reporter Frank Peebles was recognized in the feature writing category for his in-depth look about a group that survived a bear attack.
His fellow finalists for the Feature Article Award are Marty Hastings from Kamloops This Week and Kevin Diakiw, Evan Sea, Boaz Joseph and the editorial team from the Surrey Leader.
Peebles has been with The Citizen for 12 years.
Samantha Wright Allen, who left The Citizen in January for Ottawa, is looking to repeat last year's win of the John Collison Memorial Award for Investigative Journalism for her series regarding the physiotherapist shortage in the region.
Along with Wright Allen, Graeme Wood from the Richmond News and Shannon Lough from The Northern View are the finalists.
Wright Allen is also a finalist in the business writing category for her examination of how the City of Prince George and the Northern Development Initiative Trust offered development funds for the Marriott hotel project. Fellow nominees include John McKinley from the Nanaimo News Bulletin and Brandon Barrett, Jon Parris and Lynn Mitges from Pique Newsmagazine in Whistler.
The awards will be handed out April 29.
