Two adult males have been arrested following Tuesday morning's outburst of gunfire.
Prince George RCMP spokeswoman Const. Lesley Smith said investigators would release few details but "we do believe this is gang-related."
The number of shots and type of firearms used are still mysteries, but Smith said a large team of forensic and general duty officers were deep into the case, including interviews with witnesses and questioning the suspects who were in custody.
The exchange of gunfire appeared to have occurred between two groups, one that fled in a vehicle, the other residing in a duplex.
"There were five people inside the residence," said Smith. "Two adult males were taken into custody from among those five, and those two are known to police."
The ones in the vehicle have not yet been arrested, and Smith would not disclose if police knew who they were.
She said the shootout was between persons involved in the local drug trade. The nature of their dispute is not yet known, but she said arguments in the organized crime klatch can often arise over mundane topics.
"If two of them have weapons and get into an argument, most likely those weapons are going to be used," said Smith.
The consequences are far from trivial, however.
One man driving by in a pickup was narrowly missed by a bullet that went through his back windshield. Dozens of others, including many children, were out enjoying the 10:30 a.m. sunshine when the bullets flew in front of a duplex in the 1400 block of Diefenbaker Drive.
The same watch from the Prince George RCMP detachment was on duty when another gang associate, Darren Munch, was gunned down in 2010 not far from this latest site on Aug. 14, 2010.
"Gang members obviously still have not learned from the death that shocked and upset our community," said Smith.
