Two additional COVID-related deaths reported in the Northern Health region

More than 50 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in northern B.C.

The B.C. Ministry of Health and B.C. Centre for Disease Control reported two more COVID-related deaths in the Northern Health region on Tuesday.

The deaths bring the region’s death toll from the pandemic up to 295. A total of four COVID-related deaths have been reported in northern B.C. so far this week.

The grim news comes on the same day that Premier John Horgan and provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced that many of the public health restrictions in place on restaurants, bars, events, sports and gatherings will be lifted on Thursday.

COVID-19 hospitalizations continued to rise in the Northern Health region on Tuesday. The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 rose from 49 on Monday to 52 on Tuesday, including 15 in critical care.

A total of 145 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the Northern Health region on Tuesday. Earlier this month the B.C. CDC and Ministry of Health stopped reporting the number of active cases.

There have been a total of 27,384 cases of COVID-19 reported in the Northern Health region since the start of the pandemic.

As of Tuesday, 90.4 per cent of eligible British Columbians (aged five and older) have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 85.3 per cent have received two doses. In addition, 53 per cent of people 12 and older have received a booster dose as well.

Nearly 11.16 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province, including 513,822 doses in the Northern Health region.
