UNBC Timberwolves' athletes have been recognized for their skills off the court.

The annual U-SPORTS Academic-All-Canadians were announced today (Jan. 23) for the 2018-19 school year. To receive the award, an athlete must have finished with a Grade Point Average (GAA) of 3.67 which is an A- or higher letter grade.

With 20 selected this year, it ties last year's school record.

“We are extremely proud of our student-athletes who continue to excel on and off the court and pitch,” UNBC Athletics Director Loralyn Murdoch said in a news release.

“It is really difficult to spend considerable time on athletics and still maintain this lofty academic standard. Our Timberwolves continue to raise the bar, and I am thrilled for our Academic All-Canadians.”

UNBC's women's soccer program was announced as the winner of the annual Office of the Provost Academic Achievement Award, who took the honor by just 0.01 grade-point.

They finished with a GPA collectively of 3.42, while the women's basketball team finished with a collective 3.41 GPA.

“This achievement is shared with the Office of Finance and Business Operations and the Vice President Academic and Provost office," Murdoch added.

"They providing the funding and support for our peer tutor leaders for each varsity team. Our peer tutor leaders have been critical in the bar being continually raised for the academic success of all our Timberwolves athletes."
