Highway 16 was reduced to single-lane alternating traffic 29 kilometres west of McBride for much of Tuesday after a semi-truck carrying a load of power poles capsized and spilled its load midmorning.
McBride RCMP Cst. Nathan Fox said the driver was going through two bends and flipped the vehicle on its side on the second one shortly before 10 a.m. leaving the load off to one side of the road and one of the two lanes blocked.
The driver suffered minor injuries but no other vehicles were involved. Sand had to be laid down to absorb the diesel that had spilled out onto the highway and a recovery crew remained out on the scene as of late afternoon Tuesday.
The driver, from the Okanagan, was charged with driving too fast for conditions under the Motor Vehicle Act, Fox said.
