When Sydney Flodstead adopted her dog, Trigger, she had no idea he would become a hero.
On Sunday while walking through Ginter Meadow, the pitbull/great dane mix, came across something deep in the bush.
"I couldn't figure out what he was doing. He wouldn't stop barking and he wasn't listening to any of my commands. I assumed he'd found a rabbit or something," said Flodstead.
As she got deeper into the woods and found Trigger, what she saw shocked her.
"I couldn't believe it," she said.
The pup came across a man who was unconscious, lying on the ground, wearing a flannel shirt and one slipper.
Flodstead had noticed a police officer near Ginter Meadow dealing with a fender bender, so she alerted him to the man that Trigger found. When the police returned, it was discovered that the man was 76-year-old Stephen Burger who was reported missing last night from near Pine Centre Mall.
Burger suffers from dementia.
Burger regained consciousness when the police began speaking to him and he was aware of his name and where he lived. RCMP said he was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
"He is still just a puppy but it's good to know that he is really good at finding things. I still can't believe that Trigger found the missing man because there is no way anyone walking along would have been able to see him," said Flodstead.
