Trapped-calf killing shocks mother, daughter

One neighbourhood found out in shocking fashion that hunting is partially allowed inside city limits.

It might seem incongruous with an urban landscape, but much of the city is rural and wildlife moves freely about much of the municipal landscape. Haldi Road is inside that zone, so one set of neighbours there was stunned to watch as a cow and calf moose ran frantically up and down a nearby fence line with bow hunters in hot pursuit. The calf was killed by the hunters, the cow apparently was not harvested. Wide-eyed and shaken, Lorraine McKnight and her daughter Stacey Normand saw the hunt unfold.

"I'm not against hunting; I don't like the way this went on," said McKnight. "I think it was cruel, and I am shocked that hunting is allowed at all inside the city. I don't think it should be."
