The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) provided an update on its Enbridge pipeline blast investigation Friday (Oct. 12).
In a press release, the board says investigators officially accessed the site near Prince George in the afternoon of Oct. 11 after a safety assessment was completed.
The TSB is coordinating its site activities pertaining to the investigation with the activities of the pipeline operator and the regulator, and the site is still in the process of being documented, including the wreckage (pieces of pipe) and the disturbed ground.
As for next steps, the board says a detailed site survey of the area will be done. Pipeline wreckage will be then be secured and transported off-site for detailed examination. Information on the pipeline's operating history and its inspections will also be collected.
The Investigator-in-Charge of the findings is Jennifer Philopoulos, who has 15 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. She joined the TSB in 2015 as a pipeline engineering expert and senior investigator based out of the Darmouth, NS regional office. She holds a bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering from Dalhousie University.
Before joining the TSB, Philopoulos began her career at Shell at their oil sands upgrading facility, as a site material and corrosion engineer.
Most recently, she worked as a consulting engineer, providing materials and corrosion expertise to the oil and gas industry
