The free bus service on New Year's Eve was so successful, Prince George Transit officials can reasonably predict 1,000 riders hopped on during the big night of celebrations.
The increased ridership is in keeping with annual trends, said Transit supervisor Dave Bradshaw.
"There has been a slight increase each year," he said.
Throughout the last evening of the year, 797 riders took Prince George Transit's conventional bus system and 31 riders took the Carefree bus system for those with mobility issues.
"Two hundred and forty-seven rode after midnight, so that is a good number indicating people out celebrating New Year's Eve and making responsible choices to get around," said Bradshaw.
There was no fee to ride after 7 p.m. on Jan. 31, and once normally scheduled service ended, the buses on the main routes kept rolling until 3 a.m.
"I expect this service would be continued in the years to come, with the success of it."
