The first class of medical laboratory technologists at College of New Caledonia produced a graduate student who captured a national honour for high academic achievement.
Kylah Sorenson has received the Governor General college bronze medal for graduating with a perfect Grade Point Average of 4.33, which was the highest mark among CNC's first graduating class.
The 25-year-old who hails from Merrit, B.C., and who is engaged to a Prince George man, is now working at UHNBC laboratory services.
Sorenson said she took the two-year program following her work as a lab assistant.
"It's interesting work and I understand that 85 per cent of doctors' diagnosis and decisions are based on test lab results. I think that's an important part of saving lives," said Sorenson.
A total of 14 of the 16 graduates found employment with Northern Health before graduation at Prince George hospitals and labs, and smaller communities such as Terrace while another went home to the Lower Mainland to work.
