Traffic stop leads to chase, dog bites

A thwarted late-night traffic stop of what turned out to be a stolen vehicle ended in the jaw of a police service dog Prince George RCMP reported Monday. The incident began around 2 a.m.

A thwarted late-night traffic stop of what turned out to be a stolen vehicle ended in the jaw of a police service dog Prince George RCMP reported Monday.

The incident began around 2 a.m. Saturday after a general duty officer attempted to pull over a 2001 Grey Dodge minivan travelling northbound on University Way. In response, the driver of the vehicle accelerated away.

Police tracked down the minivan to the corner of Foothills Boulevard and 18th Avenue, prompting the three occupants to flee on foot.

Baron, the RCMP police service dog, followed and helped apprehend two suspects, a 55-year-old Prince George man and a 35-year-old Prince George woman.

Both the suspects suffered minor bite wounds.

The minivan was confirmed stolen from Vanderhoof. Charges including possession of property obtained by crime will be recommended to Crown against the two suspects.
