Prince George essential commuters heading out of town this week should be aware of some potential lengthy delays.

Avalanche control work is taking place in two northern B.C. regional areas to mitigate future incidents.

According to DriveBC, today's (March 31) site is beyond the Pine Pass, roughly 200 km north of Prince George, between Powder King and Old Hasler Roads conducted by CN.

A road closure is planned for the stretch, but motorists can expect 45-minute intervals between passings from 12:30 to 4 p.m.

The second avalanche control work is set for tomorrow (April 1) along Highway 16 east towards the Alberta border.

DriveBC explains this will take place near Mount Robson Provincial Park between Hargraves Road and Avalanche Gates for a 15-km stretch.

However, this is set to be a full road closure with no traffic passing through between 12 and 4 p.m.

There are currently no weather warnings in place for either the Pine Pass or Alberta-border areas as of this publication.
