Daniel Lee Gerow has been sentenced to 344 days in jail for his part in a series of Jan. 15 property crimes in which police were able to track the culprits by following their tracks in the snow.

Gerow, 25, was issued the sentence Monday in Prince George provincial court for possession of stolen property over $5,000 and break and enter with intent to commit an offence.

The case of Gerow's alleged partner, Michael Arthur John Rickett, 22, remains before the court. Rickett faces two counts of theft over $5,000 and one count of break and enter with intent to commit and offence.

According to Prince George RCMP at the time of the incident, police were first alerted when a business alarm went off at 10:40 p.m. in the 9100 block of National Place.

A security company confirmed a theft in progress of a trailer being towed by a white Ford F350 pickup, later determined to have been stolen from a shopping centre parking lot on Dec. 19.

Police fanned out throughout the area and a short time later, the pickup and trailer were found abandoned on Recplace Drive, just off of Ferry Avenue.

A police service dog tracked the suspects from the abandoned truck to the area where two men were located walking on Ferry Avenue. Adding to the evidence, police said the tracks matched the men's footwear and there was video evidence from the scene of the trailer theft.
