The annual parade of motorcycles throughout the west sector of Prince George takes place Sept. 26, beginning at noon at CN Centre.
The more than 600 bikes loaded with Christmas toys for the Salvation Army to distribute will travel through the Ospika, Tyner and Foothills boulevards area to Highland Drive and Chief Lake Road before returning to CN Centre where both bikers and public participants enjoy hot dogs, hot chocolate and coffee by donation.
Toys are gratefully collected by the Salvation Army as part of its Christmas Cheer Packages for low income families.
"This year the need is particularly great in Prince George," said executive director Bruce Kirk.
"Every month there are more and more families turning to Salvation Army for help, many for the first time in their lives. We will also be setting up our Christmas Kettles and collecting cash donations, too, as our fundraising efforts this year were critically short by over $30,000."
Bring an unwrapped gift or gift cards or stop by Zeller's where you'll receive a 10-per-cent discount on new toys being purchased on Sunday prior to the rally.
Last year, the event sponsored by the Harley Owners Group, attracted about 625 motorcycles from all over the province and more than 1,200 attended to drop off unwrapped toys and to see the bikes.
Kirk sends along special thanks to the HOG for sponsoring and organizing the toy run which provides for the majority of the toys and gifts distributed at Christmas. Last year the army that fights poverty assisted more than 2,000 local residents at Christmas.
