Repairs to Victoria Towers have required 25 residents to relocate at different times over the past weeks, according to a B.C. Housing official.

"The plumbing stacks that drain kitchen wastewater in Victoria Towers were part of the original construction were not identified as needing replacement during renovations," the official said. "After tenants moved in, the stacks began leaking."

Each of the affected tenants were out of their units for seven or eight days and the last group will return to Victoria Towers by Monday.

Transportation was provided between Victoria Towers and tenants' temporary accommodation to assist in bringing over groceries and other personal items, the official said.

"One individual had unique circumstances that were accommodated because of a physical disability; no other tenant received per diems," the official said.

Following a November 2011 fire that damaged 26 of the 12-storey building's 93 units and forced all of its tenants into other accommodation, the provincial government purchased Victoria Towers from its previous owners for $7.8 million. Renovations raised the final price tag to $15 million, most of it from the province but with some help from the federal government.

Tenants began moving back into the building in February.
