Prince George RCMP Supt. Eric Stubbs has been promoted to an Ottawa posting, the city confirmed.

Stubbs, officer in charge of the local detachment for the past three years, will take on the role of chief superintendent, director general, of national criminal operations at RCMP national headquarters.

"I would like to thank Supt. Stubbs for his hard work and leadership at the helm of our municipal detachment," said Mayor Shari Green in a press release.

She pointed to a variety of achievements that occurred during his watch, including a dedication to reducing domestic violence, acting on the city's Downtown Partnership's recommendations to create a downtown enforcement unit, and his role on the Mayor's Task Force on Crime.

"The last three years have been the most challenging and rewarding of my career," Stubbs said in a press release. "I'm extremely proud of the members and staff who work in this detachment. They work so hard to make this community safe."

According to the city, a recruitment process is already underway to select a new leader for the P.G. detachment.
