A Prince George man has been sentenced to time served for the first of a series of attacks about a year ago.

Christopher Ryan Russell, 26, received the term in Prince George provincial court on Wednesday for a Sept. 28, 2013 assault on a man in a home on Athlone Avenue. He was originally charged with assault with a weapon but convicted on a lesser charge of assault.

Russell had been in custody since Nov. 23, 2013, when he was arrested after police received a report of an assault on a man in Fraser Crescent home and then of an attempted robbery of a cellphone in the parking lot of a Fifth Avenue gas station. Bear spray was used in both instances.

In July, he was sentenced to 18 months probation and issued a lifetime firearms prohibition for assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats.

Russell, originally from Red Deer, Alta., is well known to police and the court.

In March 2011, he was sentenced to two years in jail for a holdup of a gas station. With the help of an image from a surveillance camera and other leads, he was tracked down to a home in the 3600 block of Fifth Avenue.
