There is less than a week left before the big Hospice Dream Home Lottery draw.
As of Friday, 830 tickets were still unclaimed for the 2015 dream home located at 7664 Stillwater Cres., in the Creekside Properties subdivision. The custom-built, 2,447 square foot house was appraised at $465,000.
The lottery is the Prince George Hospice Society's largest fundraiser and the group is hoping for a repeat of the last year, which was the first lottery sellout since it began in 2010.
"It's really important to help keep our doors open," said hospice event co-ordinator Colette Garneau, adding that the society needs to fundraise $1 million every year.
In addition to supporting the 10 hospice beds, funding also supports the society's bereavement, grief and education programs. These include Tea Time for the Soul, a Monday afternoon drop-in for those who've lost a loved one, and the children and youth-focused Rainbows for young people dealing with transition from death, divorce or neglect.
Tickets are $100 and can be purchased in person at the Hospice Society's main office at 1506 Ferry Ave. between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday to Friday, or at the home itself, which is open for viewing between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. every day. The grand prize draw is Thursday at 8 p.m.
Tickets for a 50/50 draw are also available for $20 each. As of Friday morning, the take-home amount for the 50/50 was $82,000, surpassing the 2014 total of $76,000. The draw will be Nov. 9 at 8 p.m. There are only 8,999 dream home lottery tickets available and 10,000 tickets for the 50/50 draw.
Tickets for both the 50/50 draw and home lottery can also be purchased over the phone by calling 1-866-419-7604. Dream home lottery tickets can be purchased over the phone until 5 p.m. on Nov. 12.
