In just two weeks, curling enthusiasts have purchased over 500 ticket deposits as part of Prince George's bid to host the 2020 Tim Horton's Brier.
A total of 506 tickets have been purchased for the bid. Hometown boosters were encouraged to purchase the $20.20 tickets to demonstrate their civic pride after the bid officially kicked off in late January. The city hopes to sell 2020 such tickets in order to meet their financial goal, as well as demonstrate the event's community support to Curling Canada. The city hopes to reach its goal by April 15.
Glen Mikkelsen, general manager of the CN Centre said the city was averaging sales of 30 tickets per day.
"If we can keep that kind of momentum up, we should get there by the middle of April," Mikkelsen said.
Mikkelsen anticipated the strong sales to continue over the next few weeks.
"As people start paying attention to curling as the Olympics start, we hope that encourages them to purchase their tickets," he said.
A purchased ticket is a deposit placed on an individual Brier tournament pass. The full pass will reserve a seat to all draws of the Brier and allows access to the "Brier Patch," the legendary flagship party of the tournament. Residents who purchase the tickets are also entered into a draw to win four tickets to the opening night of Cirque du Soleil's Crystal on April 25.
