A three-year-old Prince George boy died early Thursday enroute to hospital following a Highway 97 collision just north of Quesnel.
At about 7:40 a.m. a north-bound Jeep crossed the centre line and struck a small Chevrolet car carrying a woman driver and two young children which included the three-year-old. The other young child received no injuries, but the woman suffered serious head injuries and was airlifted to Vancouver hospital in stable condition.
Two male occupants in the Jeep, who received minor non-life threatening injuries, and the occupants in the car are all from Prince George, said RCMP Sgt. Reinhold Weissbock of the Quesnel detachment.
The investigation shows the collision scene near Hush Lake was very icy due to a heavy snowfall over night. The highway was closed to traffic for about two hours.
Weissbock said the names of the victims are not being released out of respect for the family of the deceased boy. The investigation is continuing and anyone witnessing the accident is asked to call Cst. Ryan Arthur at 250-992-9221.
