The Prince George RCMP have released more information about the motor vehicle collision that claimed one life on New Year's Eve.
After the initial stages of the investigation, it is believed the driver of a southbound Ford Explorer lost control on Highway 97 near Wall Road, causing the vehicle to cross the center line and collide with a northbound Ford pickup. The pickup then collided with another GMC pickup and all three vehicles left the road.
The driver of the Explorer was pronounced dead on scene while the passenger was transported to University Hospital of Northern B.C. and has since been flown to a Vancouver Hospital with serious injuries. The two drivers of the northbound vehicles suffered minor injuries and were released from hospital after treatment.
A deceased dog was located on the road near the site of the collision. Investigators are looking into whether the dog was a factor in the cause of the collision. It also appears that the windshield of the Explorer was not fully cleared of frost at the time of the crash.
The police would like to remind the public to ensure all windows are free of frost, snow and debris prior to driving. "This is a law in B.C. and more importantly, may save a life," said Prince George RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Craig Douglass.
The police and the BC Coroner Service are continuing to investigate. The name of the deceased has not yet been released.
