A three vehicle crash on Highway 97 near North Star Road in Quesnel resulted in serious injuries for a motorcyclist.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 25 at about 3 p.m. when officers of BC Highway Patrol – Quesnel, along with Quesnel RCMP, responded to a report of a collision involving three vehicles including a motorcycle.
Members of BC Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services (CARS), BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS), and Quesnel Fire Department also attended the scene.
Initial investigation reveals that a northbound pickup truck abruptly crossed the centre line of the highway, striking a motorcycle and a sport utility vehicle that were traveling southbound.
The rider of the motorcycle, a local woman in her 50s, was transported to hospital by BC Ambulance Service with serious injuries. The two other drivers involved, including the driver of the pickup truck, a man in his 60s also from British Columbia, were uninjured.
BC Highway Patrol – Quesnel has assumed conduct of the investigation which is still in the early stages. Drug and alcohol impairment have been ruled out as contributing factors, and no immediate charges have been laid at this time.
Police say all other avenues of investigation are being actively considered however.
Highway 97 southbound was closed for several hours during the investigation.
