Three new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the Northern Health region over the weekend, according to the B.C. Ministry of Health.
The number of active cases in the north grew by 10 per cent to 33 as of Monday, including two people hospitalized and in intensive care, according to data released by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control.
Two new COVID-related deaths were reported in the province over the weekend, one in Vancouver Coastal Health and one in Fraser Health, bringing the province’s death toll from the pandemic up to 1,763 – including 157 residents of the Northern Health region.
A total of 156 new cases were reported across the province over the weekend. B.C. had 653 active cases of COVID-19 as of Monday, including 49 people hospitalized with the disease.
As of Monday, 79.9 per cent of eligible British Columbians (ages 12 and older) had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 53.2 per cent were fully vaccinated. As of July 15, 72 per cent of eligible people in the Prince George local health area had been vaccinated.
A total of 6.17 million doses of COVID vaccine have been administered in the province, including 276,363 doses in the Northern Health region.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 148,487 cases of COVID-19 in B.C., of which 146,062 people have recovered. In the Northern Health region, there have been a total of 7,811 cases, of which 7,621 people have recovered.
