Police were called on Sunday to help a victim who had been allegedly threatened by a 25-year-old local resident, who was since been arrested and charged.
However the investigation of suspect Rory Patrick McAllister ran deeper when Prince George Mounties were led to a pair of properties where they found a number of weapons on Tuesday.
The properties were on the 2900 block and Andres Road and the 1800 block of McAndrew Crescent.
"The initial complaint about the threats had nothing to do with either one of those addresses, but as a result of our investigation, we were led to those two addresses with warrants," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass.
Seized from those locations were a bullet resistant vest, eight ounces of marijuana, numerous rounds of ammunition, four rifles, two handguns and three stun guns.
At least one of the guns had been reported stolen and two others had serial numbers removed. Other stolen merchandise was located.
McAllister was being considered for additional charges, pending further investigation, and Douglass said if evidence suggested a different person of interest, that would be pursued in due course by investigators and Crown counsel.
Douglass also pointed out that police considered it a success to locate a stolen weapon, regardless of who might be responsible for it, because public safety is always threatened when rightful ownership of a firearm is compromised.
The frequency and violent nature of illegal gun incidents has already caught the attention of new RCMP Supt. Eric Stubbs, less than two weeks into his post as Prince George's commanding officer.
He considered this incident to be another indication that public concern was warranted over guns being in the wrong hands in Prince George.
"This seizure came as a result of great police work," Douglass said. "It could have been shrugged off as just an uttering threats file and left at that, but more than one RCMP member thought it better to see some evidence through to its full conclusion, here, and we were able to locate these weapons due to that good instinct and diligent work."
